SDCTA Statement on Affordable Housing Changes
Haney Hong, President and CEO of the San Diego County Taxpayers Association, released the following statement today regarding recently approved changes to San Diego’s Affordable Housing Density Bonus Program and Land Development Code.
“San Diego’s City Council made important strides in the right direction at Tuesday’s meeting when they approved Mayor Faulconer’s two new affordable housing strategies. Loosening the Density Bonus guidelines and altering zoning requirements will help San Diego build more affordable housing while moving us closer to our climate action goals in the process.
We need to consider that the first way of addressing San Diego’s housing crisis is not just throwing more money at the problem. It is crucial that we also reduce inefficiencies and regulatory barriers inherent in the development process while not harming the city’s environment. Our Association hopes our elected leaders can continue working together to improve housing affordability for San Diego’s low- and middle- income residents, and we applaud the leadership from Mayor Faulconer.”
