Orientation for Newly Elected Officials in San Diego
SAN DIEGO (Jan. 8, 2019) — The San Diego Taxpayers Educational Foundation (SDTEF) will host an orientation for elected officials in San Diego County. The two-day educational seminar at Point Loma Nazarene University (PLNU) provides an opportunity for newly and re-elected leaders to discuss local issues with area experts.
“We want our elected officials to hit the ground running from day one,” said SDCTA’s President and CEO Haney Hong. “The Taxpayers Educational Foundation offers this event to ensure that those holding public office have the opportunity to learn more about the programs, agencies and people that affect their constituents.”
“It is our pleasure to partner with the SDTEF to offer this orientation for elected officials serving at all levels of our government,” said PLNU’s President, Dr. Bob Brower. “Bringing together public officials and regional experts in an academic setting affirms our commitment to enrich and promote the quality of civic life and public affairs by building bridges between PLNU and the San Diego community.”
The event will feature experts who will address a variety of municipal topics including:
· Mark Cafferty, President and CEO of San Diego Regional Economic Development Corporation;
· Peter Callstrom, President and CEO of San Diego Workforce Partnership;
· Bill Gore, San Diego County Sheriff;
· Rick Gentry, President and CEO of the San Housing Commission;
· Cody Hooven, Chief Sustainability Officer for the City of San Diego,
· Kim Kawada, Chief Deputy Executive Director for the San Diego Association of Governments,
· Maureen Stapleton, General Manager of the San Diego County Water Authority;
· Job Nelson, Assistant Vice President of External Relations for the Port of San Diego;
· Dale Scott, President of Dale Scott & Company;
· Glen Sparrow, Emeritus Professor, School of Public Affairs at San Diego State University;
· Haney Hong and Xiomalys Crespo, SDCTA
Program moderators include: Erik Anderson (KPBS), Kristina David (San Diego Union-Tribune), Will Huntsberry (Voice of San Diego), Andrew Keatts (Voice of San Diego), Phil Molnar (San Diego Union-Tribune), Jennifer Van Grove (San Diego Union-Tribune).
The orientation will take place on Thursday January 10th, 2019, 9:00am-5:00pm, and Friday January 11th, 2019, 9:00am-12:00pm at Point Loma Nazarene University. Upon completing the course, participants will receive graduation certificates.
Both current and incoming elected officials are eligible to attend. Register on SDCTA’s website before January 9th, 2019.
