Statement from SDCTA: Proposed City Budget Cuts Amidst COVID-19
Haney Hong, President and CEO of the San Diego County Taxpayers Association, released the following statement today:
“The San Diego County Taxpayers Association applauds the San Diego city council and mayor for their prudence in creating reserve funds to help during an economic crisis. However, these are unprecedented times, and the economic effects of Covid-19 have not yet been fully realized. The city will be facing some very tough decisions regarding program and service cuts during the next fiscal year.
The projected budget deficit gives the city an opportunity to take a hard look at core city services. Public safety must continue to be at the forefront of city spending, and now is the time to take a look at prioritizing the services residents truly need. We also need to consider how to stabilize revenue streams and live within our means — now and in the future, so that we’re not so vulnerable to economic downturns and disruptions.
We look forward to being engaged in the discussions and offering input on ensuring San Diego makes the most of its strained budget and strengthens it into the future.”
