This is an ONLINE course through Point Loma Nazarene University.
Four-week online structure allows you to plan assignments and learning around your own schedule.
This course draws upon scholarly and practitioner knowledge to guide students as they analyze the following critical components that organize the class:
The legal obligations of public officials when negotiating benefits with public employee unions
The actuarial science behind annual public contributions to defined benefit pension funds
The accounting rules related to accurate reporting of retirement benefits on public financials
The various types of public employee retirement plans and how they are constructed
ABOUT THE Professor
A husband, father, Reserve Naval officer, business owner, and student of citizenship, Haney Hong is President & Trustee of the San Diego Taxpayers Educational Foundation. He is focused on robust citizenship engagement and firmly believes that such engagement is the first line of defense against internal and external threats to a healthy democratic society. Haney is a graduate of Stanford and Harvard Universities and sits on several nonprofit and government boards on the East and West Coasts. He teaches at Point Loma Nazarene University, the United States Naval War College, and the University of California San Diego.
