COVID19 Links for Taxpayers
With so much information out there, we want to help our members and California taxpayers, in general, navigate it all and take the actions necessary to ensure they and their families can weather this storm.
Actions You Should Take Today
If you’re unemployed, access the tax dollars you’ve paid into the California Unemployment Insurance fund by going to https://www.edd.ca.gov/unemployment/.
If you’re a small business owner contemplating laying off employees, consider applying for a Small Business Administration Disaster Relief loan at https://disasterloan.sba.gov/ela/Information/Index. You might be able to continue payroll with this influx of cash, and it generally takes three to four weeks for a response to your application.
Actions You Should Take by April 15th
If you expect to get a refund, file your taxes with the Internal Revenue Service and the California Franchise Tax Board.
If you expect to have to pay taxes, wait! The new deadline is July 15th, so hang onto your cash for now.
Once you and your family are stable, actions to consider to #starttherecovery and #flattenthecurve
If you need to eat, go buy a gift card or take out from a local restauranteur. You can find information on California restaurants at https://www.calrest.org/coronavirus-resources. This helps our local businesses to stay in business while also paying some sales taxes for public health officials and law enforcement paychecks.
If you want to want to learn what’s going on at the state and various cities in response to this emergency, you can go to https://www.cacities.org/Policy-Advocacy/Hot-Issues/Coronavirus-Resources-for-Cities for information.
